Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR

Server log files and hosting

When you call up this website, your browser automatically transmits technical information to the server, which is stored temporarily in what are known as server log files. In particular, this covers browser type and version, the operating system used, the page previously visited (referrer URL), the host name of the accessing device, the IP address and the time of access.

This data is processed in order to deliver the website technically and to ensure its stability and security. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and functioning operation (Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR). The log files are stored for a limited period only and then deleted; data whose further retention is required as evidence is exempt from this until the incident in question has been resolved.

This website is hosted by an external service provider, which processes the data mentioned on our behalf as a processor pursuant to Article 28 GDPR. A corresponding data processing agreement is in place with the provider. Provider:

If you contact us by email or telephone, we process the details you provide – such as your name, email address or telephone number and the content of your enquiry – solely in order to deal with your request.

The legal basis is the performance of pre-contractual measures or the fulfilment of a contract (Article 6 (1) (b) GDPR) where your enquiry is directed at this, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry (Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Your details are deleted as soon as they are no longer required for processing and no statutory retention obligations prevent this.

Cookies

Technically necessary cookies, used in order to provide the website at all, are based on section 25 (2) TDDDG and our legitimate interest in a functioning web presence (Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR). No consent is required for these. This also covers storing your cookie decision itself – only that way can we avoid asking you again on every visit.

All other cookies, in particular those set by Google Analytics and those used for advertising through Google AdSense, are stored and read only after you have given your consent (section 25 (1) TDDDG, Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR). Your consent is requested by Google’s consent dialogue. As long as you neither accept nor decline, Google Analytics is not loaded. Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. The analysis helps us see which content is in demand and how the website is used, so that we can improve it.

Google Analytics is loaded only once you have given your consent in the consent dialogue. If you decline or make no choice, no analysis takes place, no analytics cookies are set and no connection to Google is established for Google Analytics; for advertising, see the section Google AdSense.

After your consent, cookies are stored on and read from your device, in particular _ga and _ga_EH50DL9Y16, each with a lifetime of two years. The data processed includes the pages you visit, the time and duration of your visit, the page you came from, approximate location data, and information about your browser and device. Google states that it does not store IP addresses in Google Analytics 4, but uses them only to derive coarse location data and then discards them.

Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out up to that point.

Google AdSense

This website uses Google AdSense, a service for displaying advertisements provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. The revenue helps finance the free learning content on this website (Musicapedia, exercises, sheet music archive). The script is loaded from pagead2.googlesyndication.com.

Consent: Whether cookies and similar technologies may be used and personalised ads may be shown is requested by Google’s consent dialogue: whether Google and its advertising partners may store or read cookies and similar technologies on your device and personalise ads. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR); for storing and reading information on your device, additionally section 25 (1) TDDDG.

Without consent, Google can serve only non-personalised or limited ads. For this, technically required data is processed, such as the IP address, information about your browser and device, and the page visited, in order to serve ads, limit how often they appear and prevent fraud. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in financing the free offering (Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Transfer to Google LLC in the USA is possible; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision of the European Commission of 10 July 2023).

YouTube videos

On the “Media” page we embed a video from the YouTube platform. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

When you open the page, no connection to YouTube is made. At first you only see a still image that is served from our own server. Your browser loads the YouTube player only once you click the play button.

By clicking you consent to that connection (Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR, section 25 (1) TDDDG). From that moment YouTube receives your IP address together with details of your browser, operating system and the page you are viewing, and may store or read information on your device. If you are signed in to YouTube at the time, the request can be linked to your account; sign out beforehand if you would rather it were not. Your consent applies to the individual video and ends as soon as you leave or reload the page.

We embed the video via the domain youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. According to the provider, no cookies for personalised advertising are set in this mode; the data transfer described above still takes place.

Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, for which a certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework exists. For further information on how user data is handled, see Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
